Groundwork Exercise

“My best training tip is to regularly incorporate groundwork exercises when working with your horse. It builds communication between you and creates a stronger bond that you will benefit from even when you are in the saddle.”

This is how you do it:

"One exercise that I like to do regularly and often recommend to others is to stop and back the horse when walking them by hand.

The goal is for the horses to pay attention to your body language and stop and back up when you do, without you touching them or the halter. At first, you may need to show the horse what you mean by slightly pressing on the chest when going backwards, but you can also add a voice command.

It's important to be clear with your body language so that the horse understands what you want. Good communication through body language on the ground can make a big difference in your relationship with your horse!"
