You’re sitting in the tack room, having just taken apart and cleaned your bridle after your ride. But where do the different parts actually go, and what are they called? Let’s take a closer look at the subject.

Crownpiece

The crownpiece of the bridle sits behind the horse’s ears. The cheekpieces and noseband attach to the crownpiece.

Browband

The browband attaches to the crownpiece on either side, just below the horse’s ears.

Throatlatch

The throatlatch attaches to the crownpiece on either side and runs along the horse’s jaw.

Cheekpiece(s)

The cheekpieces of the bridle connect the bit to the crownpiece.

Noseband

The noseband also attaches to the crownpiece. Depending on the type of noseband, it runs either around the horse’s nose and under the jaw or below the placement of the bit rings.

Flash Strap

The flash strap attaches to the noseband and runs below the bit rings.

Reins

The reins attach to the bit rings.
