André Brandt's Exercise:

Serpentine Pole Work

“This is a great exercise that you can keep on doing until your horse gets around smoothly and easily.”

This is how you do it:

“Set up three sets of poles across the centerline, with four poles in each set. Place the poles so that you can ride two equally-sized serpentine loops over them.

Give this exercise a go in the trot, riding the curves in a figure eight, and switch directions each time you cross over the middle poles.

A tip is to stay off the rail and avoid using the arena wall for support. This is an excellent way to train keeping your horse between your hands and legs. And a great exercise that you can keep on doing until your horse gets around smoothly and easily.”
