Do you own, care for, or ride a gray horse? Then you’re in the right place. We’ve talked to Rasmine Laudrup-Dufour’s pro groom Alberte Folman Bach, to get her absolute best tips on how to keep Rasmine’s gray horses spotless. ✨ What are her must-haves in the grooming bag, and how do you remove those stubborn stains on gray horses? Read on to get her pro tips.
What does your role entail at the stable?
– In my role, I’m responsible for Rasmine’s show jumpers. I take care of them every afternoon, handling everything from grooming to clipping, and so on. In the mornings, you could say I act a bit like a “stable manager” alongside Rasmine, as we work together to manage all stable tasks and oversee the daily routines.
What are your best everyday tips for keeping a gray horse clean?
– On regular days, when we don’t have training or shows, I think it’s important to let the gray horses “just be horses.” We don’t do anything special to keep them extra clean during the day-to-day. I use a sponge and warm water to remove stains, and I wash their tails once a week to keep them white and clean. We clip the horses regularly and use a lot of bedding to keep the stalls dry and clean, which makes everyday care easier.
How do you keep the tail clean?
– If we get a horse with a dirty tail, the solution is to wash, wash, and wash over several days until it’s fully clean. Once the tail is white, washing it once a week is enough to keep it that way.

How do you remove stains from a gray horse?
– It’s so much easier to remove stains when the horse has recently been clipped. In fact, I’d say that’s my number one tip for keeping gray horses clean. If you clip them regularly, the stains come off easily with gray-horse shampoo and warm water.
What are your top three must-haves in the grooming bag for those who own or take care of a gray horse?
Wet wipes, your best friend when you’re on-the-go
An effective gray-horse shampoo
Brighter Than White (a powder that provides extra white finish for the coat)

What tips do you have for an extra polished finish on show day?
– On show day, I always use Brighter Than White on the legs and tail before the horse competes – it gives an extra white finish. I also apply coat shine all over the horse to make it gleam. When using coat shine, it’s important to ensure that the horse is thoroughly clean for the best possible result.
How do you prevent the horse from getting stains overnight before show day?
– To prevent stains from appearing overnight before a show, I always make sure to clean the stalls thoroughly at the end of the day. I also check that the bedding is fresh and dry. I braid their tails and let them sleep with a blanket with a neck cover, as long as it’s not too warm.
